Summer and the Move for Hunger Initiative

Summertime at Holman means the busy season. We will be sharing helpful moving tips and tricks all season long but Holman Moving Moves for HungerI wanted to take a moment to share a reminder about one of our favorite initiatives, Move for Hunger. The summer moving season is the perfect time to take advantage of this amazing initiative and help those in need in your local communities.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! This is the time of year to be with family, friends, and loved ones and to reflect on all we are grateful for. It’s also the time of year to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate.  At Holman we are grateful for the opportunity to work with an amazing organization that does just that. Move for Hunger is one of the nation’s largest, year round service programs. They team with movers around the country to collect unwanted non-perishable pantry items (that are usually more expensive to move than to replace anyway) and deliver them to local food banks.

Additionally, we are always very grateful for our hard working and dedicated staff and for our loyal friends and customers. We hope that you all have a very happy, safe, and delicious Thanksgiving.

Summer Moving Season and the Move for Hunger Initiative

Holman Moving Moves for HungerMemorial Day is next week, which means the official start of the busy summer moving season is next week as well. We will be sharing helpful moving tips and tricks all season long but I wanted to kick it off with a reminder about one of our favorite initiatives, Move for Hunger. The summer moving season is the perfect time to take advantage of this amazing initiative and help those in need in your local communities.

Holman Moving Delivers 1,064 Pounds of Food to the Food Bank of Delaware

Holman Moving Delivers 1,064 pounds of food at the Food Bank of DelawareWe at Holman have been working with Move for Hunger for years now in an effort to help our local community food banks provide nourishment to those in need. Our drivers collect donations and we make deliveries all year round to the Food Bank of Delaware but the holiday season is always our biggest donation of every year. I am grinning ear to ear as I write this next sentence because our 2014 holiday food drive was our most successful yet!

We usually run the holiday food drive through mid-January so that our final donation will help restock the food bank’s shelves after a hectic holiday season. This year, I am beyond happy to announce that we collected 1,064 pounds of food!

Thank you to our customers, our local communities, our friends and employees, and our online communities for helping us not only beat our donation record, but for helping us help those in need. Every contribution makes a difference and we are so grateful for all of your help and support.

Move for Hunger

Move for HungerHolman Moving Moves for HungerSocial media is great for so many reasons. It’s perfect for staying in touch with friends both near and far, it’s great for storing photos and videos and sharing them, it’s helpful for business both new and old AND it’s a great way to spread awareness and raise money for a good cause. Those of you who are active on social media may have seen videos of friends and coworkers recently completing the “Ice Bucket Challenge” to help strike out ALS. While there are varying opinions on the validity of the challenge, the statistics speak for themselves. Since July 29 of this year, donations to the ALS Association have reached 13.3 million dollars, up from 1.7 million dollars during the same time period last year. That’s incredible! Reading about the statistics and the challenge, and participating myself, got me thinking more about another cause worthy of recognition. Move for Hunger has been near and dear to our hearts here at Holman for years now and I thought today would be just as good a day as any to give it some attention.

Holman Moving Delivers 389 Pounds of Food to Food Bank of Delaware

Holman Moving Moves for HungerWell it’s official, the holidays are over and 2014 is in full swing. As you know, as part of our commitment to Move for Hunger, we hold a holiday food drive every year to benefit the local food bank. With the end of year rush, we wanted to extend our efforts into mid-January to help re-stock the shelves. This year, at the conclusion of our third annual holiday campaign to collect food for the Food Bank of Delaware, I am happy to report that our Delaware office raised 389 pounds of food! That’s 324 meals for people in need!

We’d like to send out a huge thank you to our local communities, our employees, and our customers who donated their unused pantry items to our efforts as well as our drivers who collect items all year round.

Thank you all again for your support. Every contribution, large or small, makes a huge impact on the lives of those in need.

Move for Hunger Reminder

Holman Moving Moves for Hunger

The holidays are creeping up on us. Aside from family, food, and my favorite decorations, this time of year always makes me feel incredibly grateful, which is a great reminder to help those less fortunate. That being said, I thought today would make a great day to quickly remind everyone of the Move for Hunger initiative that is near and dear to our hearts over here.

Holman Moving Delivers 474 Pounds of Food to Delaware and New Jersey Food Banks

Holman Moving Moves for HungerWe have a lot to be thankful for here at Holman Moving Systems. As part of our commitment to Move for Hunger, we ran our second annual holiday campaign to collect as many food donations as possible for our local food banks. We are thrilled to report that our offices in New Castle, Delaware and Hackensack, New Jersey together raised 474 pounds worth of food for the Food Bank of Delaware and the Center for Food Action in New Jersey, which tops last year’s collections by 74 pounds. More importantly, these donations will provide 360 meals to families in need in Delaware and the NJ and NY metro market.

Move Out Hunger this Holiday Season!

It’s that time of year again! By now you probably know we are committed to Move for Hunger, a non-profit organization that works with moving companies across the country to pick up unwanted, unopened food from those who are relocating and deliver it to local food banks across the country. We were honored to be the first mover in Delaware, and among the first movers in New Jersey, to join the program. To date, we have dropped more than 600 pounds of food to our food banks – the Food Bank of Delaware in New Castle, DE and the Center for Food Action in Englewood, New Jersey.
