The holidays are creeping up on us. Aside from family, food, and my favorite decorations, this time of year always makes me feel incredibly grateful, which is a great reminder to help those less fortunate. That being said, I thought today would make a great day to quickly remind everyone of the Move for Hunger initiative that is near and dear to our hearts over here.
For those of you who have never heard of Move for Hunger, it’s a non-profit initiative that partners with moving companies across the nation to pick up unwanted and unopened food from those who are moving. The food is then delivered to local food banks to be distributed to communities. They have partnered with over 500 companies across America and have collected over 2,000,000 pounds of food!
It such a simple yet amazing concept, don’t you think? Since the cost of a move is based significantly on the weight of belongings, it’s usually cheaper to re-buy canned and boxed goods since they cost less to purchase than to move them. Instead of binging on your extra pantry items or throwing them away, moving companies that partner with Move for Hunger take them and donate them for you.
Did you know that one in six Americans suffers from hunger? That’s over 50 million people. Hunger is, unfortunately, all around us. And you don’t have to be moving to help out. You can donate to Move for Hunger any time you want. It is a year round initiative.
We work hard to donate as much as possible all year round and the summer is a successful season since it’s the busiest time of the year in the moving industry. Though there are fewer moves to handle this time of year, it’s still important to collect and contribute as much as possible. Keep your eyes and ears open for our Holiday Season donation opportunities. We’ll post how you can help, moving or not, on our blog, Facebook, and our Twitter.
